WATCH: Do the Boston Celtics already have the right core to contend later?

It goes against the conventional wisdom, but is this a legitimate take?

For much of the last season and a half or so, the conventional wisdom has been that the Boston Celtics need to make some fairly significant moves on the trade market to improve the team enough to be a serious contender after the up-and-down play of the current team’s core has been something of a letdown compared to previous deep runs made by the Celtics.

But what if that conventional wisdom was wrong? What if those early successes in the careers of All-Star forwards Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown were more fueled by now-departed star players like Gordon Hayward, Kemba Walker, and Kyrie Irving? What if the inconsistency we have seen since they left is the normal state of affairs for a team as young as the Celtics are?

This is the topic of debate in a new episode of the CLNS Media podcast “Celtics Beat” that sees hosts Adam Kaufman and Evan Valenti argue on whether Boston might already have everything it needs besides the time and reps to improve its young core.

Watch the clip embedded above to hear their takes on the status quo of the Celtics ahead of their rematch with the San Antonio Spurs this Wednesday evening.
