Way too early Wisconsin two-deep predictions: Defense

Here’s a way too early look at Wisconsin’s projected two-deep on defense heading into 2022.

The Wisconsin Badgers (9-4) were a program led by their impressive defensive unit, coached by defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard.

Wisconsin’s defense was the teams heartbeat all season long. They finished the season 1st in total defense, 4th in passing yards per game, 1st in rushing defense, 6th in points per game allowed, and 2nd nationally in yards per play  allowed (4.17). Hard to ask for more than that from “The Grit Factory”.

Right now, Wisconsin is set to see the departure of eight preferred starters now that Leo Chenal had decided to enter the NFL draft. That leaves a significant amount of snaps and overall production needing to be replaced, and competition at seemingly every position.

With that being said, it’s never too early to take a look ahead at what next season’s defense might look like.
