Jalen Hurts wants answers from the Washington Football Team after scary tunnel incident

He was lucky to not get hurt.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was fortunate to avoid injury on Sunday when a portion of the stands near the tunnel at FedEx Field collapsed, sending fans falling to the ground near him.

At the time, Hurts’ immediate response was to check on the fans who fell and snap some photos with them. But the couple days since have given Hurts a chance to think about just how poorly that scary incident could have gone. And now, Hurts wants answers from the Washington Football Team about what’s being done to prevent something like that from happening again at the stadium.

He posted an open letter to the Washington Football Team on Tuesday, demanding answers from the club.

He wrote:

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing to inquire about what follow-up action is being considered in response to the near-tragic
incident that took place at FedExField on January 2. As you are aware, many individuals, including fans, media personnel, and myself, were placed in a dangerous situation when portions of the FedExField tunnel collapsed. Although I was able to prevent the barrier from crashing onto me, that was not the same for others who could be suffering from lingering injuries.

Through the initial shock, my first reaction was to assist those involved. However, while I displayed a calm composure, I understand the severity of what happened and am extremely concerned for the well-being of the fans and media. As a result, I would like to know what safequards the NFL and the Washington Football Team are implementing to prevent this from ever occurring in the future.

The resources of the NFL and team organizations ensure our safety through playing this physical sport, but what happened on Sunday put both fans and players unnecessarily at risk long after the final whistle. I look forward to hearing from you on this matter.

Sincerely,
Jalen Hurts

According to ESPN, several fans suffered injuries from the fall and claimed they were not offered on-site medical attention by the team — despite a WFT statement to the contrary.

Let’s hope that Dan Snyder and the WFT brass actually take appropriate steps to prevent a similar incident. We likely haven’t heard the last of this one.
