After floating around .500 the past two seasons, Penn State faces yet another challenging schedule in 2022 with the hopes of rebounding. If Penn State faces division foes Ohio State and Michigan in back-to-back weeks to start October and takes trip down o SEC country when they play at Auburn in mid-September as the backend of a home-and-home series. The Nittany Lions will also be looking for revenge in a few games with Michigan State and Illinois each making a trip to Happy Valley in 2022.
For the third consecutive season, Penn State will open the new college football on the road against a Big Ten team. After opening the abbreviated 2020 season at Indiana and the 2021 season at Wisconsin, Penn State will play the 2022 season opener at Purdue. The Nittany Lions will also host a pair of MAC programs in non-conference play with matchups with Ohio and Central Michigan surrounding the big road trip to Auburn.
