DeMar DeRozan did his best Larry Bird impersonation recently as he nailed a pair of buzzer-beaters to get the Chicago Bulls wins in back-to-back games on the last day of 2021 and the first of 2022, a feat accomplished by The Hick From French Lick with the Boston Celtics in back-to-back games in 1985 according to a tweet from Basketball Reference.
The relatively rare feat has only been accomplished by a handful of players — most recently LeBron James in 2018 — and the pair of such clutch shots were sunk by Bird in a 48-point, 10-rebound, 7-assist win against the Portland Trail Blazers on Jan. 27, which was followed up with Larry Legend hanging 32 points, 10 boards and 5 assists on the Pistons two days later, nailing the game-winner in both contests.
While the buzzer-beater against the Pistons seems to be lost to the sands of time, we found some highlight footage of Bird’s big night against the Blazers in 1985 courtesy of the folks at the Historical Highlights YouTube channel.
And, if it suits you, check out the Johnny Most coverage of said buzzer-beater here.
