Report: Cavaliers in serious talks to acquire Lakers guard Rajon Rondo

The Los Angeles Lakers could be moving Rajon Rondo to the Eastern Conference.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are in serious talks with the Los Angeles Lakers to acquire veteran guard Rajon Rondo, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

This comes after the Cavaliers lost Ricky Rubio for the season due to an ACL tear, so the team is browsing the league for a replacement.

Rondo is currently making the veteran minimum this season, so matching salaries in a potential deal wouldn’t be difficult. The 35-year-old guard is currently averaging 3.1 points and 3.7 assists on 32.4% shooting overall and 26.7% from deep after signing a one-year deal this summer to return to L.A.

Moving Rondo would open a roster spot for the Lakers. That could pave the way for someone like Stanley Johnson to make the official team since he is playing on a 10-day deal and has impressed enough to warrant a full-time spot on the squad.
