The Kansas City Chiefs were without a single player at practice on Wednesday as they begin preparations for their Week 17 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Andy Reid spoke to the media following practice on Wednesday and delivered the news that RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who injured his shoulder/collarbone in Week 16, was the lone player to sit out of practice. He also shared some good news on the team’s COVID-19 situation.
“As far as the injuries go, Clyde (Edwards-Helaire) is really the only one that didn’t practice today,” Reid said. “Everybody passed their COVID, that’s on the active roster.”
Everyone from the 53-man roster cleared the league’s COVID-19 protocols. Players like Travis Kelce, Nick Bolton, Lucas Niang, Rashad Fenton, Armani Watts, Kyle Long, Tommy Townsend and Harrison Butker all returned to practice on Wednesday per Coach Reid.
“They were all out there today,” Reid said.
Those listed who were still on the Reserve/COVID-19 list will be formally activated to the 53-man roster on the NFL’s personnel notice which comes out later today.
As for Tyrann Mathieu, who left Week 16’s game against the Steelers with a quad injury, Reid says he’s feeling fine. The reason that Mathieu is practicing to start the week has to do with the team’s decision to pull him from the game early.
“He feels great,” Reid said of Mathieu. “We took him out of the game at that point and took him up and the trainers started working on him right away. He came back the next day and he was great. We all know he’s a tough kid and loves to play. But at that point in the game, we had enough of a lead that we could do that and just kind of get it started. It made a huge difference.”
