The 49ers on Monday announced punter Mitch Wishnowsky was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. They also added linebacker Tyrell Adams to their practice squad after waiving him last week.
Wishnowsky is the first 49ers player to hit the COVID-19 list this season. Head coach Kyle Shanahan on Monday told reporters all the close contacts for Wishnowsky were cleared, and his return for Sunday hasn’t been ruled out for Sunday’s game. The club may wind up adding another punter just in case since Wishnowsky’s return will depend on negative tests and whether he has symptoms of the virus.
Adams was with the 49ers’ practice squad before getting elevated to the active roster and seeing action in five games before his release after the team’s Week 15 win over the Falcons. Injuries have been a huge problem at linebacker for San Francisco this season so additional in-house depth is valuable for them.
In five games Adams played just one defensive snap, but he contributed on special teams in all five contests. He notched one tackle.
