For the first time since joining the Tennessee Titans last week, inside linebacker Zach Cunningham addressed the media on Friday.
Before taking questions, it was revealed by head coach Mike Vrabel that Cunningham would suit up for his first game with the Titans in Week 15 versus the Pittsburgh Steelers after getting in a full week of practice.
Cunningham, who went to college at Vanderbilt, expressed his excitement to be back in Nashville and playing under Vrabel, who was his defensive coordinator with the Houston Texans in 2017.
“Went to Nashville for four years at Vandy, so being able to come back to the city and get around some more guys that I know, some coaches that I know, that was something that I was really excited for,” Cunningham said.
“Basically [Vrabel] was just saying he’s glad to have me here, excited for me to get out there. He feels like I’ll be able to do a lot with the defense, and I feel the same way. I’m excited as well to be here and be back with Vrabe.”
Cunningham says he was surprised that the Titans were able to claim him in the first place, as the team was far down in the waiver claim order.
“I was a little bit surprised for sure,” Cunningham admitted. “I didn’t think that was something that was going to be able to happen, but, you know, here I am.”

Cunningham will don No. 41, the same number he wore with the Texans. The number was originally owned by fullback Khari Blasingame, but he was willing to give it up to his former Vandy teammate.
Zach Cunningham called getting jersey No. 41 from former college teammate Khari Blasingame “a little Vandy love.”
