The former Ohio State coach, who stepped down after — what do you know, controversy! — is out in Jacksonville per numerous reports.
The big question is, how could we have seen this happening? Oh wait — everyone did.
As Jim Harbaugh once said, Meyer wins wherever he goes, but controversy also follows him wherever he goes. That’s been pretty accurate and has continued to stand up to scrutiny. Meyer stepped down from Ohio State in the aftermath of the Zach Smith fiasco, after having left Florida unceremoniously ‘for health reasons’ as his questionably assembled team was falling apart. Now his NFL gamble is ending in disgrace, before he even finished his first season.
There’s been a ton of reported upheaval in the locker room, and it was exacerbated when he apparently kicked his kicker — literally. It started when he didn’t fly home with his team after a game at Cincinnati, opting for some extracurricular activities in Columbus instead. Pretty astonishing for someone who had a class at the esteemed Ohio State University about leadership.
No, no one could have seen this coming. At least he won big in Jacksonville — finishing with a 2-11 record in the NFL.
But hey! Talk all that smack about Jim Harbaugh all you want and his record at Michigan. It’s not like he instantaneously turned the San Francisco 49ers into a powerhouse that went to three-straight NFC Championship Games and it’s not like that franchise fell apart when Harbaugh left — oh, wait.
While we perhaps shouldn’t shed any tears for the former Buckeye head man, you really do hate to see it. Truly.
Never could have seen this trainwreck coming, not from a mile away.
