Report: Pelicans have discussed possible Ben Simmons trade with Sixers

The New Orleans Pelicans and the Philadelphia 76ers have discussed a possible Ben Simmons trade.

The Philadelphia 76ers are still working on finding the right value in a possible Ben Simmons trade for their team as they move forward. It is becoming clear that Simmons really does not intend on returning to Philadelphia and the Sixers are in a position to try and find the right value for him.

There is no shortage of suitors for him as the Sixers have about seven teams who have interest in the 25-year old 3-time All-Star. The New Orleans Pelicans are not one of those teams on the list, but there are reports that the two teams have discussed a possible trade.

Per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype on his podcast, the Sixers and the Pelicans have had discussions of a possible Simmons deal:

I heard the Pelicans discussed trading future first-round picks and pick swaps with the 76ers for Ben Simmons, league sources told HoopsHype. Brandon Ingram was not involved in the talks, I’m told, at least as of now. With Zion Williamson’s latest injury setback, it’s unclear how that could move the needle for the Pelicans in their efforts to land Simmons.

With this latest news with the Pelicans, the Sixers could, of course, just wait it out. One option is possibly punting the season and seeing if they can get James Harden in the offseason in a sign-and-trade with the Brooklyn Nets as he is a guy who has the attention of the Sixers. Another option is to make a move for a player who is a star, but not quite an All-Star, but the Sixers have made it clear that the asking price is high for Simmons.
