Sixers ready to burn the tape following blowout road loss to Grizzlies

The Philadelphia 76ers are ready to burn the film following a rough blowout loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Philadelphia 76ers certainly had themselves a rough night on Monday in their matchup with the Memphis Grizzlies. Shortly before a rough 126-91 loss, they found out that they would be missing Seth Curry about 20 minutes before tipoff.

Losing Curry is tough, but it is doable to get it done out on the floor. However, literally minutes before tipoff, the Sixers found out that they would also be without Joel Embiid. After that, the team could not get it going in the loss.

The Sixers shot only 44.6% from the floor, they shot only 4-for-22 from deep, and they committed 15 turnovers that led to 18 points for the Grizzlies. They also allowed Memphis to shoot 52.8% from the floor and they shot 14-for-34 from deep.

“Burn the film, throw it away and just move on to the next game,” said coach Doc Rivers. “I thought the late scratches kind of threw us off. It’s funny because at halftime we were still shooting at 54%, but we couldn’t get stops all night. It was just the theme all night. I think they had 100 points going into the fourth quarter. You’re not supposed to win any games like that. So, we’ll move on.”

The Sixers have had tough nights on offense, but they had been able to rely on Embiid to be able to carry them on their off nights. They did not have that luxury in this one and Philadelphia could not get anything going.

It was just one of those nights.

“I will watch it once or twice, and then move on,” said Tyrese Maxey who led Philadelphia with 23 points.”We have a game Wednesday, and I think it is back-to-back so move on to the next one and try to get those. Those are conference games so those are big ones.”

The difference in 3-pointers hurt in this one. The Grizzlies knocking down 10 more triples is a huge difference. Philadelphia only attempted 22 on the night which is a low number and something that has to be addressed.

“We could not get off the line, and it is hard when a team makes 10 more 3s, that’s 30 points right there,” Maxey added. “It is tough to beat a team when you cannot get them off the line and you are not knocking down 3s.”

The Sixers will now move on to face the Miami Heat on Wednesday back at home.
