LSU men’s basketball move up in the AP top 25 poll

LSU climbs inside the top 20 of the AP Poll.

The LSU men’s basketball team was ranked No.25 a week ago in the Associated Press poll. On Monday, the Tigers moved up six spots to No.19.

LSU improved its record to 9-0 after a 69-53 win over Georgia Tech Saturday. LSU has not started 9-0 since the 1999-2000 season. The Tigers also went up four spots in the Ferris Mowers USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. They are now ranked No.20.

Although their 9-0, it has not been easy for the Tigers. On Saturday night against Georgia Tech, the Tigers got off to a slow start and were down 34-30 at halftime. However, LSU went on a 30-12 run in the second half and pulled out the victory. LSU sometimes struggles on offense, but hey plays defense at a high level in certain stretches.

When the Tigers can force turnovers, they are a dangerous team in the open court. Saturday night, the Tigers turned 24 Georgia Tech turnovers into 33 points. 16 of the turnovers happened in the second half when LSU went on that huge run.

LSU’s next three games are against Northwestern State, Lousiana Tech, and Lipscomb. It is a chance for the Tigers to get 12-0 before conference play begins. Six of the first seven games are against ranked teams when conference play starts. Within the next month will see how good LSU really is.
