Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker has a higher user score than any game on Metacritic in 2021

Stand tall.

There might be no better indicator that Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker  is a hit than it being Metacritic’s best-reviewed game in 2021 by users.

First spotted by Forbes, the latest expansion for Square Enix’s wildly popular MMORPG is gathering wild praise from users over on reviews-aggregate Metacritic. As of Monday, Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker  is sitting at 9.4/10 based on more than 300 user scores.

For comparison, here are the Metacritic user scores for other heavy hitters in 2021:

  • Deathloop – 6.3
  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart – 8.5
  • It Takes Two – 8.9
  • Halo Infinite – 8.5
  • Battlefield 2042 – 2.2

That metric is particularly impressive considering the  persistent congestion issues plaguing the expansion. Typically, when a game has a rough launch, users will take to platforms like Metacritic and its page with scaling reviews. Somehow, though, Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker is in the community’s good graces.

Final Fantasy 14 also won Best Community Support and Best Ongoing at  The Game Awards last week. Check out the team’s acceptance speech for yourself below.

Square Enix is giving players free subscription time to  make up for the server situation. There’s no word on how much free time they’ll give out, but knowing the Final Fantasy 14 development team will be a significant chunk.

There’s only a tiny handful of professional reviews up for Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker as of Monday, primarily because it’s very long and the server queues can make logging in borderline impossible at times. ForTheWin will have an official review for the expansion in the coming days, though!
