A third New Orleans Saints player was added to the league’s COVID-19 reserve list on Thursday, with wide receiver Ty Montgomery joining defensive end Cameron Jordan and running back Mark Ingram II following a positive test result.
While Montgomery’s absence isn’t a crushing blow on its own, this is becoming a larger problem. The team is managing so many injuries at different positions that they can’t afford many more vulnerabilities. If Montgomery and Ingram are both unable to play in Week 14 against the New York Jets it would leave just Tony Jones Jr., Dwayne Washington, and practice squad running back Josh Adams on the depth chart behind Alvin Kamara.
This outbreak follows last week’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, who experienced their own COVID-19 issues leading up that matchup — head coach Mike McCarthy and several assistants were away from the team after testing positive. All teams are working under heightened health and safety protocols right now, but it’s clear that staying healthy is a challenge this late in the season.
