Playstation reportedly planning subscription service similar to Xbox Game Pass

Sony plans to take on Microsoft’s wildly successful Game Pass program.

Sony is creating a subscription service similar to Xbox Game Pass, Bloomberg reported Friday.

Allegedly code-named Spartacus, the service will let subscribers access a wide array of games on Playstation consoles. Surprisingly, Spartacus will likely be available on PS4 in addition to PS5.

Spartacus is expected to launch in the spring of 2022, merging both Playstation Now and Playstation Plus into a single unified subscription. The former is typically for playing older PS3 titles on modern consoles, while the latter is the service that most multiplayer games require to play online. Sony is apparently phasing out Playstation Now branding with Spartacus.
