The Philadelphia 76ers are getting healthier, welcoming back key pieces to their roster. Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris are the notable returnees, but another important piece is Danny Green.
The veteran three-time champion missed time with lingering left hamstring tightness: four games on the team’s recent six-game road trip. He has come off the bench in the two games he has played since his return.
He had 11 points in Saturday’s loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, and he gave the team a big boost in the third quarter when Philadelphia mounted its comeback. He was a plus-16 in the third quarter, and he knocked down two 3 during the surge.
“Yeah, it was great, he was making shots,” said Embiid. “We had some good ball movement when he was on the court. It was unfortunate he was on a minute restriction. We needed him, but he was great.”
Green played 1:11 in the fourth quarter and he did not play in either of the overtime sessions. He played 21:59 on the night, and he was a plus-11 in those minutes. The Sixers have him on a minutes restriction as they work him back into action after the hamstring injury.
“I thought Danny spread the floor for us,” said coach Doc Rivers. “We used his minutes up so we couldn’t put him back in, but he was a big help for sure.”
The Sixers have started Matisse Thybulle with Green coming off the bench. Maybe this is a new look for the Sixers, but it is obvious Green is the better fit for the starting unit offensively due to his shooting. It will be interesting to see how much longer the Sixers continue with this look out on the floor.
