The Chicago Bears have lost five straight games, and the seat has never been hotter for head coach Matt Nagy. But some frustrated Bears fans crossed a line that had one Illinois high school principal issuing a public apology on Tuesday.
Nagy’s son, Brayden, plays high school football for Lake Forest, and during Saturday’s blowout loss to Cary-Grove, the Cary-Grove student section broke out into a “Fire Nagy” chant. While a similar “Fire Nagy” chant was heard at Soldier Field on Sunday, this chant was intended to mock Nagy’s son.
Video showed the chant starting as early as the second quarter. A Twitter user said it continued in the fourth quarter as well.

On Tuesday, Cary-Grove principal Neil Lesinski issued an apology to Lake Forest and condemned the “disrespectful chant.”

“On behalf of Cary-Grove High School, I want to assure our community that the chant was not acceptable nor appropriate and was immediately addressed by administration at the game,” the statement read.
The same chant was also heard during Monday night’s Bulls game at the United Center. It’s a thing in Chicago now, apparently.

And there are early reports that Thursday’s Thanksgiving matchup against Detroit could be Nagy’s last game with the Bears. But next time, let’s leave the guy’s kids out of it, Bears fans.
