Trace McSorley signed by Arizona Cardinals

Former Penn State QB Trace McSorley is changing his NFL feathers

Former Penn State quarterback Trace McSorley is heading to a new NFL city. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, via Twitter on Monday evening, McSorley is signing a contract with the Arizona Cardinals. Mcsorley will join the active roster in Arizona after being a practice squad player for the Baltimore Ravens.

The Cardinals were without franchise quarterback Kyler Murray this past weekend in NFL action for a third straight week due to a high ankle sprain. Arizona started former Texas quarterback Colt McCoy in his place for the third consecutive week. With the ongoing injury concern to Murray, Arizona decided it needed another quarterback to add to the depth chart, and McSorley was sitting there waiting on the Baltimore practice roster.

McSorley has appeared in three career games in the NFL, in which he has thrown for 90 yards and a touchdown. McSorley has lived the life of a backup to franchise quarterbacks, first with LaMar Jackson in Baltimore and now to the injured Murray in Arizona, at least for the time being.

McSorley was waived by the Ravens prior to the start of the 2021 NFL season, but he later rejoined the team as a member of the practice squad.

Mcsorley is Penn State’s all-time leading passer with 9,899 career passing yards from 2015-2018. He was the quarterback for James Franklin’s most successful seasons as a Penn State head coach, with a Big Ten championship, an appearance in the Rose Bowl, and a victory in the Fiesta Bowl.
