To close the final contest of a four-game road swing, the Golden State Warriors elected to give Steph Curry a night off against the Detroit Pistons before returning to the Bay Area.
With Golden State’s Most Valuable Player candidate out, Jordan Poole took over against Cade Cunningham and the Pistons. The Michigan Wolverines product notched a season-high 32 points on 13-of-22 shooting from the field with seven rebounds and two assists.
Poole helped lead the Warriors to a victory over the Pistons with Curry, Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala and Otto Porter Jr. out for the game.
On Sunday against the Toronto Raptors at Chase Center, Curry and Green returned to the lineup, but Poole showed no signs of slowing down. The third-year guard recorded a new season-high with 33 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field.

Poole got especially hot from long distance, drilling a season-high eight triples on 11 attempts from beyond the arc. Poole’s impressive performance came at the right time on Sunday night as his partner in the backcourt struggled.

Uncharacteristically, Curry posted only 12 points on 2-of-10 shooting from the floor in 27 minutes. The Golden State point guard tallied only one 3-pointer on six attempts from deep.
However, Poole’s performance paired with 32 points from Andrew Wiggins helped the Warriors secure the win, 119-104.

The 22-year-old guard has now recorded double-figures in scoring 11 of his last 12 games for the Warriors. Poole is averaging 18.4 points on 45.8% shooting from the field – both career highs.
