Yes, we’re going from one name sponsor in Los Angeles to another. Yet there was something about Staples Center that made it a pretty decent name for the home of a pro sports team.
We’re still in an era of arenas getting sponsored names, a far cry from the days of everything from the Kingdome to Madison Square Garden (whose moniker still exists, thank goodness, otherwise there’d be a riot in New York), which means they’re all pretty bad. But if you think about it, there are some names that roll off the tongue better than others.
Let’s talk about the latter — in no particular order, the worst-named pro arenas and stadiums:
