LSU vs Texas Tech one more time?

The loss against the Arkansas Razorbacks sure put a damper on any postseason plans for the LSU Tigers. While not impossible to still get there, likely improbable for it to happen. They need a win against UL-Monroe which is certainly doable. Then they would need to beat the Texas A&M Aggies, which is a little tougher of a task. Again, not entirely impossible.

The Aggies haven’t looked all that consistent this year, they lost to Mississippi State and came close to losing to Colorado earlier this season. Then they beat Alabama and had many questioning if they wrote off the Aggies too quickly. Then the loss against Ole Miss this past week showed some warts. Specifically how this team looks when they turn over the football.

With all that said you can look right at the LSU Tigers, who really knows what to expect with this team. They seem to have found something on defense but now the offense is a continued problem. So much so that head coach Ed Orgeron stated it is the same story with their issues. Too predictable, not enough motion. They can’t create separation for their receivers, the offensive line is a problem. Shuffling quarterbacks this past week didn’t do anything for a boost.

Can they get to a bowl game? Looking at the major publications, only one still has them playing in the postseason. Stewart Mandel of The Athletic (subscription required) thinks a rematch of the 2015 Texas Bowl is in order.

In the SEC vs Big 12 bowl game, it could put the LSU Tigers against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Both teams going through a coaching change. The Red Raiders fired Matt Wells and hired Baylor assistant Joey McGuire to take over after the season. Ed Orgeron will depart after the season with no replacement named as of yet. These teams have played a total of three times in which the Tigers won all three. The first two came in a home-and-home series in 1954 and 1957. The last was the 2015 Texas Bowl in which LSU defeated Texas Tech 56-27.
