Will this top 100 defensive lineman choose Florida over ‘Bama and LSU?

Landing this elite defensive lineman would be huge for both Florida and Dan Mullen.

Four-star defensive lineman Quency Wiggins has cut his list of schools down to three and Florida is one of the finalists for the Top 100 recruit.

Florida joins Alabama and Louisiana State in Wiggins’ top three. He’s visited each school multiple times with his last trip to Gainesville being an official visit the weekend of the Vanderbilt game in early October. The 6-foot-6-inch, 274-pounder would likely fill the role defensive end Zachary Carter currently serves in for the Gators.

Florida lost some of its top recruits after failing to live up to expectations this season, but landing an elite defensive recruit within weeks of firing the team’s defensive coordinator would be a step in the right direction for Dan Mullen.

It would be quite the statement for Mullen to pull this one off. Generally speaking, Lousiana kids like to go to LSU and the Tigers already have one crystal ball prediction on 247Sports for Wiggins with medium confidence. But Florida isn’t giving up. Wiggins told 247Sports that he talks to defensive line coach David Turner often and that Florida and LSU are recruiting him the hardest.

“I am still talking to them every day,” Wiggins said. “I really talk with everyone at Florida, but Coach Turner is the main one since he’s my main recruiter. It makes me feel like I am really wanted at Florida and a big time target.”

Wiggins is No. 99 overall on the 247 Composite list and is the No. 17 defensive line recruit in the country. Florida’s 2022 recruiting class is currently ranked 23rd in the country and ninth in the SEC. Adding a top 100 recruit would help get the Gators closer to where they should be in the recruiting department.

Wiggins hopes to decide by the Early Signing Period in December but has yet to name a decision date.
