Arkansas kicker Cam Little is on the verge of having the best season a Razorbacks kicker has had in a decade. The freshman has been a godsend for an Arkansas team that has struggled on special teams since Zach Hocker and Joe Adams were leading the way in 2011.
But even those teams didn’t beat Alabama. In fact, the last time Arkansas got the better of the Crimson Tide, Little wasn’t even in school yet.
And as good as the Hogs have been this year – another win would give them their most regular-season victories since that 2011 season – it appears there is little chance beating Alabama comes in 2021. ESPN’s Football Power Index gives the Razorbacks only a 7% chance to pull the upset in Tuscaloosa on Saturday.
The Worldwide Leader’s college football algorithm places Alabama the same place as the two major polls: No. 2 in the nation. Arkansas entered the traditional polls on Saturday at No. 21 in the AFCA USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll and No. 22 in the Associated Press Poll. But the FPI isn’t as kind, placing the Hogs at No. 32.
That’s behind the likes of Florida, Mississippi State and Tennessee.
In fairness, the FPI isn’t a ranking system, per se. It evaluates teams on their productivity up to that point, but also includes a metric to determine the likelihood of winning against remaining competition.
If Arkansas were to beat Alabama, the SEC West is thrown into chaos. Really, what could be finer?
