Can the Washington Football Team pull off a huge upset on Sunday by taking down the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers?
Sure, the odds aren’t in Washington’s favor, as the Bucs opened as solid favorites and remain as such. But the odds didn’t favor the Jacksonville Jaguars or the Denver Broncos in Week 9 upsets over the Buffalo Bills and Dallas Cowboys, respectively.
There’s a reason Washington fans lack optimism for this game. After all, there is a large body of work suggesting Washington has no chance in defeating Tom Brady and the Buccaneers.
Tampa Bay enters Week 10 without key starters in tight end Rob Gronkowski and wide receiver Antonio Brown. Wide receiver Chris Godwin and pass-rusher Jason Pierre-Paul are questionable. However, Washington has its injury issues, but All-Pro guard Brandon Scherff is back.
Some will suggest Washington can beat Tampa Bay. After all, the WFT fought the Bucs to the wire in January’s wild-card game. It’s important to remember that game was 10 months ago and has no impact whatsoever in Sunday’s matchup.
Washington played well against the Packers three weeks ago until they got to the red zone. Those issues cost Washington a chance at an impressive win.
This game will remain reasonably close throughout the first half. However, Washington will struggle to run the football, making the offense one-dimensional. That leads to a pair of critical Taylor Heinicke turnovers, and the Bucs pull away in the second half.
