Myles Garrett has the highest of career goals caught while mic’d up

Some questioned Garrett’s commitment to football during the draft process but the comment he made while mic’d up proved he has big goals for his NFL career:

The Cleveland Browns have important goals for the 2021 season. While the start of the season hasn’t been what they expected, their goals are still all achievable going into Week 10 of the NFL season. A victory over the New England Patriots would be a big step in that direction after taking care of the Cincinnati Bengals last week.

Myles Garrett also could have his eyes set on some important goals for the 2021 season. Through nine games, Garrett leads the league with 12 sacks. With the longest season in NFL history, he has an extra game to try to break Michael Strahan’s season record of 22.5 sacks from 2001.

The Cleveland defensive end has even bigger goals for his career as caught when he was mic’d up:

The comment is a strong one for Garrett’s future. One of the concerns about Garrett coming out of college was his diverse interests. Some wondered if he would retire early, be invested in what it takes to be great and have the necessary passion for the game. From that statement, it is clear that Garrett has long-term goals in the NFL.

That is great news for the Browns who signed their former top overall pick to an extension worth $100 million last year.

Despite missing games due to injury and suspension, Garrett has 54.5 sacks through 4.5 seasons in the league. While he has a long way to go to get to Bruce Smith’s 200 career sacks, Garrett could make a run at it. Smith played 18 seasons in the NFL. Reggie White, in second place with 198 sacks, played in the league for 15 years.

With his goal of being the greatest of his generation, Garrett has the fourth-most sacks since 2017 when he entered the league. He sits nine behind Aaron Donald for most during that time and 6.5 behind TJ Watt for most for an edge player. Donald has played in 11 more games than Garrett in that time while Watt has nine more.

Garrett has some big goals for his career. If he can reach them, he can help Cleveland reach their team goals.
