After nine weeks, the Miami Dolphins are officially down to their third center as the team announced Wednesday that they were placing Greg Mancz on injured reserve.
Mancz went down in the first half of the game against Houston with an ankle injury and never returned. He will now need to miss at least three weeks with the designation.
Austin Reiter has stepped in for Mancz and has looked serviceable. In his 208 snaps, he’s earned a PFF grade of 58 but a 66.1 in pass blocking. He’s an experienced center who should be able to hold his own in most matchups.
In the same announcement, the Dolphins stated that they would be signing center Cameron Tom to their active roster from the practice squad. In his fifth season, Tom has played in just 12 career games and has started only one.
His last game action came in Week 12 of 2020 when he played just three snaps for the Saints in a win over the Broncos. However, he’s been with the Dolphins since February, so he should be familiar with their system.
