Christian Wood says he’s here to stay in Houston, through good and bad

Stephen Silas recently acknowledged frustration by Christian Wood, but the big man clarified Tuesday that he is “here to stay” in Houston.

Houston Rockets big man Christian Wood drew attention over the weekend by indicating a desire to be more involved on offense after Saturday’s game in Denver, and he followed with an uncharacteristically low number of shot attempts during Sunday’s loss at Golden State.

Head coach Stephen Silas acknowledged Wood’s frustration in postgame comments, and with the Rockets (1-9) having lost eight straight games, it’s understandable that players may not be in the best of moods.

But on Tuesday, the 26-year-old took to Twitter to clarify that his frustrations should not be taken as a signal that he wants to leave the team. “I’m here to stay in Houston, through the good and bad,” he wrote.

The 6-foot-10 big man is averaging 17.5 points and 11.8 rebounds per game this season, with both totals leading the Rockets.

“I don’t think there’s anyone that believes in Christian Wood more than I do,” Silas said following Tuesday’s home practice. Reporters at the scene found Wood to be the last player on the court before leaving.

Wood should have ample motivation for Wednesday’s nationally televised game versus Detroit (1-8), since that’s the team he left in the 2020 offseason after not receiving a comparable contract offer to the one from Houston. Tipoff of the ESPN game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Central.
