Rutgers field hockey is now No. 1 in the nation in RPI, fresh off capturing the first Big Ten Tournament in program history. At 18-3, the Scarlet Knights are the top overall seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

Rutgers will play on Nov. 12 in the NCAA Tournament’s first round against the winner of Fairfield (14-7) at No. 8 Delaware (12-8), who are playing in the ‘Opening Round’ on Nov. 10. The Final Four and the championship will be played this year in Ann Arbor.

The Scarlet Knights got the top billing in the tournament following a 1-0 win over Michigan on Sunday afternoon.  They are one of five Big Ten teams to make the field of 18 programs in the tournament that includes Rutgers, No. 2 Iowa, No. 3 Michigan, No. 4 Penn State, and Maryland.

The first-round game will be at home for Rutgers. Should the Scarlet Knights advance, they would also host the second-round game.

The program has never advanced beyond the second round of the NCAA Tournament, having done so twice in 1984 and 1986.
