The Philadelphia 76ers are still dealing with the Ben Simmon saga as they continue to move forward with the 2021-22 season. They have gotten off to a good start at 8-2 and sitting at the top of the Eastern Conference, but there is still the lingering Simmons issue with this team.
The 25-year old All-Star would obviously like to be traded, but the Sixers have maintained that they want him here in order to not only help them win games, but also boost his trade value. Simmons is one of the top 30 players or so in this league, but the team knows that at the moment, all they would get for him are role players.
There is one team that may have interest in Simmons at the moment and that is the rival Boston Celtics. Per Shams Charania of The Athletic and The Stadium, the Celtics, who have gotten off to a 4-6 start, have talked to Philadelphia about a Simmons deal.
Per Charania:
The Boston Celtics have engaged in conversations with the 76ers revolving around Simmons and expressed interest in the 6-foot-11 guard, sources tell The Athletic. Talks have been fluid with no traction as of yet, those sources say. Any potential Simmons deal with the Celtics would have to include All-Star forward Jaylen Brown, an ascending talent who is in the midst of another career season, averaging 25.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
Brown is the type of player the Sixers would be looking for in a Simmons deal. They do not want a role player for one of the game’s bright talents. They want All-Star players who can come in and make a difference. Jaylen Brown looks like he can be that type of player as Philadelphia moves forward.
