Brooklyn started the season going 2-3 and many were concerned on whether the rocky start was solely due to Kyrie Irving’s absence. Since then, the Nets have reeled off five consecutive wins,, and Kevin Durant is already in stride.
According to NBA.com, Durant sits as the league’s leader to win the MVP award. The 2013-14 MVP averaged 29.8 PPG in Brooklyn’s first five games. As the rest of the team followed suit watching Durant put up these performances in losing efforts, something clicked. James Harden and LaMarcus Aldridge in particular have elevated their game offensively and the Nets as a whole have ramped it up defensively, allowing only 97 PPG during this five game winning streak.
Across the board, Durant is also averaging career-highs in rebounds with 8.8 RPG and field goal percentage shooting it at 57%. Currently, he is putting up 28.3 PPG. These are outstanding numbers to open up the campaign, yet it’s terrifying to believe Durant is not even in mid-season form and so isn’t the rest of his team.
