Floyd Mayweather is the sixth highest-paid athlete of all time and four boxers are among the Top 25, according to an analysis by Sportico.
Former NBA superstar Michael Jordan, with inflation-adjusted earnings of $2.62 billion, is No. 1 on the list. Only 6% of that total is from his playing contracts.
Mayweather, boxing’s pay-per-view king, earned $1.2 billion over his two-decade career. The other boxers on the list are No. 16 Mike Tyson ($775 million), No. 18 Manny Pacquiao ($630 million) and No. 23 Oscar De La Hoya ($580 million).
The numbers are based on salaries, endorsements, licensing and memorabilia earnings, Sportico reported.
Mayweather fought in the four richest pay-per-view boxing events of all time and five of the Top 10. His opponents in those fights were Manny Pacquiao, Conor McGregor, Canelo Alvarez, Oscar De La Hoya and Miguel Cotto, respectively.
Tyson took part in four of the 10 highest-grossing fights, including his exhibition with Roy Jones Jr.
Nos. 2-5 on the list are golfer Tiger Woods ($2.1 billion), golfer Arnold Palmer ($1.5 billion), golfer Jack Nichlaus ($1.38 billion) and soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo ($1.24 billion).
