The Cincinnati Bengals made a few roster moves after claiming Vernon Hargreaves on the waiver wire. One of those was waiving edge rusher Darius Hodge.

Now he’s a member of the Miami Dolphins.

The Bengals had clearly hoped Hodge would pass through waivers, enabling them to slip him onto the practice squad. He had a monster summer and preseason, even repping with the first team in exhibitions and looking like he belonged before playing a smaller role during the regular season.

But the Dolphins had seen enough of Hodge to put in a claim on the waiver wire. No word on if other teams did, but they were the earliest in the official order to do so.

That’s the risk of trying to pass a high-upside guy through waivers though and the Bengals will need to look elsewhere to fill that potentially long-term role Hodge had appeared to be working toward with the team.
