A couple of Rams were banged up in the second half of Sunday’s win over the Texans as both Van Jefferson and Tutu Atwell exited with injuries. Jefferson hurt his knee on a deep 68-yard reception, while Atwell injured his shoulder during a punt return in the second half.
Atwell was taken to the locker room and was unable to return, and the severity of his injury is still unknown. Jefferson remained on the sideline for the remainder of the game, though he was cleared to return. The Rams didn’t need him during their blowout win, however.
Sean McVay told reporters after the game that Jefferson is expected to be OK but Atwell’s status isn’t as clear.
“Injury-wise, Tutu was the only one that went out of the game. I’m not sure what it is with his shoulder, so I’ll have further updates for you tomorrow when we reconnect,” McVay said.
This is what he said about Jefferson after he injured his knee, saying it was just a little bit of swelling that occurred.
“He’s good. He just kind of banged it, kind of like when you get a little bit of swelling in your knee, like a bursa sac. So he’s going to be OK,” McVay said.
The Rams need Jefferson to remain healthy after DeSean Jackson requested a trade. The veteran appears to be on his way out of Los Angeles, regardless of whether the Rams can find a trade partner.
