Jacksonville’s first victory in the 2021 season didn’t come at home. In fact, it didn’t even occur on the North American continent. The team had to go all the way to Great Britain to get a win, defeating the Miami Dolphins in London on a walk-off field goal in its last outing.
After a bye week to reflect on the win, the Jags hit the road for another travel-intensive trip as the team heads to the Pacific Northwest to take on the Seattle Seahawks looking for its first true road win of the season.
Playing on the West Coast hasn’t been kind to the Jaguars. They are 3-13 all-time in those games, and Seattle’s Lumen Field was described by coach Urban Meyer on Wednesday as the loudest outdoor stadium in football, based on what he was told by those familiar with the Seahawks’ “12th man.”
Luckily for Jacksonville, it doesn’t have to go up against superstar Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson. Wilson was placed on the injured reserve after suffering an injury in a Week 5 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, and in his place, veteran journeyman and former second-round pick Geno Smith has started the last two games with middling success.
The Jags’ secondary has struggled this season, and Seattle boasts one of the league’s most talented receiving corps between DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and tight end Gerald Everett.
Things won’t be easy for Jacksonville’s defense, but its quickly improving offense should find some success against a Seattle defense that ranks near the bottom of the league in both rushing and passing yards allowed. This is a winnable game, certainly, but it will require the Jags’ to do something they haven’t done this year: pull out a win in a hostile environment (London doesn’t qualify).
Do you think the Jags will be able to win their second-straight game? Or will the crowd prove to be too much for this team to overcome? Let us know in the poll below.
