The Los Angeles Lakers had another injury scare when Anthony Davis went down for a moment in Tuesday’s win against the San Antonio Spurs.
In the closing seconds of the fourth quarter, the Spurs were at the free-throw line when San Antonio missed the second shot. Davis tried to go up for the rebound, but a Spur collided with him, causing Davis to go down in pain.
Davis held his knee on the floor for a while until the training staff checked him out. He eventually got back on his feet to finish the game.
It was certainly a scary sight given how it could’ve been a serious knee injury, but Davis said after the game the contact with another Spur caused the pain.
“Getting a box out, and then he was doing his job flying in, but I was still kind of planted on the ground, and he ran into my knee, like a little stinger,” Davis said. “Then started moving and it went away because I kept playing. Still felt it a little bit but finished the game. We’ll see how it is when I wake up tomorrow.”
Davis said the team will do more tests when it lands in Oklahoma City prior to the game against the Thunder to determine his availability.
Los Angeles recently had another injury scare involving LeBron James, who missed San Antonio’s game with a sore ankle.
The Lakers are already dealing with several injuries to key role players in Trevor Ariza, Talen Horton-Tucker and Kendrick Nunn. Wayne Ellington is nearing a return, but L.A. cannot afford to lose members of the star trio.
