The Green Bay Packers defeated the Washington Football Team, 24-10, in Week 7 action from Lambeau Field.
While the final score indicates a relatively comfortable Green Bay win, this was a competitive game until the third quarter when a plethora of Washington mistakes sealed this game for the Packers.
Before Sunday’s game against Washington, Green Bay opponents had made 15 trips into the red zone — the result was opponent’s scored every time.
Enter Washington.
Washington made three trips inside the red zone on Sunday, which resulted in zero points. One missed opportunity was due to quarterback Taylor Heinicke diving just short of the goal line with no defenders in the area. That brought up fourth-and-goal when Heinicke tried a quarterback sneak, and he came up short.
Washington’s defense got the ball back for the offense, and the team moved the ball back inside Green Bay’s 10-yard line. Running back Antonio Gibson carried the ball to inside the five-yard line when he fumbled the football. Officials initially gave Green Bay the football, but replay correctly ruled that WFT center Chase Roullier recovered the football.
Shortly after that, Washington, trailing 21-7, had a chance to cut the lead to one score. Heinicke rolled to his right and found a wide-open Terry McLaurin in the end zone. McLaurin drops the pass.
That’s the type of day it was for Washington.
That was essentially the end of the competitive portion of this game, and Washington drops to 2-5 on the season.
Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers completed 25 of 37 passes for 274 yards with three touchdowns. Rodgers was sacked three times — all in the first half.
Heinicke completed 25 of 37 passes for 268 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He also fumbled once.
Washington is back on the road in Week 8 with a trip to Denver.
