Rookie Wire predicts Cam Thomas will play significant minutes for Brooklyn

How will the Nets utilize rookie Cam Thomas during Kyrie Irving’s absence?

Nets rookie Cam Thomas enters the league with high expectations after his impressive showing this summer. The LSU product took home the Co-MVP honors in Las Vegas’ summer league, averaging a league-best of 27 points per game. His efforts secured him a deal with Adidas going into his rookie campaign.

In Tuesday’s loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, the rookie made his official debut and scored his first NBA points in the closing moments of the game. In four minutes of play, Thomas marked the start of something special – but how much will the Nets need his contributions this year? According to Cody Taylor of Rookie Wire, Thomas can average up to 20 minutes for Brooklyn by season’s end.

“With much uncertainty surrounding Kyrie Irving this season, the Nets could turn to Thomas more in certain situations. He has proven he can come in and give the team scoring off the bench, which could be very beneficial. The scoring Thomas can bring could mean he sees the floor quite a bit, which would easily ensure our prediction of 20 minutes a game with at least one 30-point performance comes to fruition.”

Amidst Kyrie Irving’s absence, this can very well become a reality. The 20-year-old is fresh off of averaging 10.5 PPG, 2.5 RPG and 1.3 APG in the preseason. Now, it’s time to find out if Thomas can provide this same production when it matters most.
