Whenever Matthew Stafford was traded to the Los Angeles Rams in the offseason, he immediately became a favorite to win NFL MVP in 2021. Through the first six weeks of the season, Stafford hasn’t disappointed one bit, compiling impressive numbers en route to the Rams securing a 5-1 record.
Following the team’s rout of the Giants in Week 6, Stafford now has the fifth-best odds to win NFL MVP, according to Tipico Sportsbook.
Here are the top five candidates through six weeks.
- Kyler Murray: +330
- Josh Allen: +480
- Dak Prescott: +500
- Tom Brady: +650
- Matthew Stafford: +900
Stafford is currently completing a career-best 69.5% of his passes for 1,838 yards, 16 touchdowns, and he’s thrown four interceptions. The gunslinging signal-caller is slightly ahead of Aaron Rodgers for the fifth-best odds to win MVP, as the All-Pro quarterback of the Green Bay Packers has been hitting his stride in recent weeks.
The four quarterbacks ahead of Stafford are all playing extremely well, too. While Brady doesn’t add much of anything with his legs, the other three quarterbacks in front of Stafford do happen to add production on the ground, which could give them an edge on Stafford.
Betting Stafford at +900 odds isn’t terrible value, especially if you’re someone that believes he remains on his current path for the rest of the season. At those odds, a $100 bet would return a profit of $900. If Stafford were to continue on his current trajectory in the regular season, he’s on track to finish with 5,207 passing yards, 45 passing touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
For Stafford to have any chance of earning the prestigious end-of-season award, the Rams will need to continue cementing themselves as a true contender in the NFC. Stafford will look to add to his MVP resume in Week 7 when he squares off against his former team, the Detroit Lions.
