David Moore was released by the Denver Broncos on Tuesday after failing to fill KJ Hamler’s former role in the team’s offense.
After Hamler went down with a season-ending knee injury three weeks ago, Broncos Wire published a list of several players the team could target to help replace him. That list included speedy receiver John Brown, who was a free agent at the time.
Denver opted instead to sign Moore off the Las Vegas Raiders’ practice squad. Moore played in 19 snaps in his first game with the Broncos in Week 4 but did not catch any passes.
Seemingly unhappy with Moore’s performance, Denver reduced his role the following week, giving him just four snaps on offense in Week 5. In two games, Moore had two targets and no catches in Denver.
The Broncos then went out and signed Brown to their practice squad. Given his speed, Brown appears to be a more like-for-like replacement for Hamler than Moore. Denver elevated Brown to the active roster in Week 6 and Moore was inactive after two underwhelming performances.
Brown reverted back to the practice squad on Monday and Moore was cut Tuesday. The Broncos have not yet filled Moore’s former spot on the 53-man roster. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Brown get promoted to the active roster to replace Moore on offense.
