Penn State is getting a much-needed week off in week 7 of the college football season, but the Nittany Lions will resume their schedule the following week with a home game against Illinois. The homecoming game will kick off at noon eastern, and now we know how you will be able to watch the game on TV from the comfort of home.
It was announced on Monday that Penn State’s home game against Illinois on Oct. 23 will be carried by ABC. This will mark the third time this season Penn State will play a game on ABC. Penn State has already been featured on ABC’s primetime schedule twice this season with home games against Aubrun and Indiana. This will be Penn State’s first noon game carried by ABC this season.

Penn State will be coming off a bye week following a loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes in Week 6. The 23-20 setback was the first loss suffered by Penn State in the 2021 season, but the more immediate concern is the health and status of starting quarterback Sean Clifford. Clifford was knocked out of the game against Iowa, and his exit was a drastic turning point in the game.

There is still plenty to play for this season after the loss to Iowa, and division games will be crucial in the second half of the season. A home game against Illinois is a favorable draw for Penn State, especially if the Nittany Lions must play with TaQuan Roberson at quarterback instead of Clifford. The bye week to better prepare for the situation against a team not nearly as good as Iowa is the perfect formula for a Penn State offense that may be without its most important player.
