Packers WR Davante Adams sets career-high for receiving yards vs. Bengals

Packers WR Davante Adams caught 11 passes for 206 yards and a touchdown in the 25-22 win over the Bengals on Sunday.

The first 200-yard receiving game of the 2021 season belongs to Green Bay Packers receiver Davante Adams, who caught 11 passes for a career-high 206 yards and a touchdown during Sunday’s 25-22 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

The performance was Adams’ first 200-yard receiving game of his career. His previous career-high was 196 yards, set last year against the Houston Texans.

The All-Pro receiver knew a big game was coming on Sunday in Cincinnati.

“Yeah, I told at least three people outside the building, talking to family, one of my cousins, talking to my wife, I told her this was going to be my career-high this game, so, either I’m clairvoyant or I know what I’m talking about,” Adams said post-game.

Adams made the prediction come true with one big play after another.

The Packers consider an “explosive” play to be any pass over 16 yards or any run over 12 yards. Adams had catches of 59 yards, 34 yards, 24 yards, 22 yards, 20 yards and 17 yards, giving him six “explosive” plays on Sunday.

How was the connection between him and Aaron Rodgers?

“It was good,” Adams said. “Obviously we had a pretty productive day.”

The damage could have been more. Rodgers missed Adams deep in a one-on-one situation on his interception thrown in the first half, and he just missed Adams open in the end zone on a third-down attempt late in the game.

Through five games, Adams has 42 catches for 579 yards and two touchdowns. He’s on pace for 142 catches, 1,968 yards and seven touchdowns over a 17-game schedule.

“There’s a reason he’s got that 99 rating in Madden. He’s a baller,” coach Matt LaFleur said.

Adams’ 200-yard receiving game was the eighth in franchise history and the first since Jordy Nelson totaled 214 in a win over the New York Jets in 2014. He is the seventh player overall in franchise history to produce a game with 200 or more receiving yards, joining Nelson, Javon Walker, Don Beebe, James Lofton, Carroll Dale and Billy Howton.
