The Green Bay Packers escaped Cincinnati with a wild overtime win over the Bengals on Sunday.
An avalanche of missed field goals finally subsided when Mason Crosby hit a 49-yard field goal with 1:58 left in overtime, sending the Packers to a dramatic 25-22 win over the Bengals.
It took six go-ahead field goal attempts late in the game to finally get a game-winner.
Crosby missed two field goals that would have put the Packers into the lead late in the fourth quarter, including one as time expired, and then missed a third field goal in overtime that would have won the game. Bengals rookie kicker Evan McPherson also missed two field goals, including a potential game-winner in overtime.
Given a fourth opportunity to end it, Crosby sent the Packers home winners.
Here’s a rundown of the field goal misses:
– Crosby missed 36-yard field goal wide left with 2:14 left in the fourth quarter
– McPherson missed a 57-yard field goal off the right upright with 26 seconds left in the fourth quarter
– Crosby missed a 51-yard field goal wide left with no time remaining in the fourth quarter
– Crosby missed a 40-yard field goal wide left with 8:12 left in overtime
– McPherson missed a 49-yard field goal wide left with 4:19 left in the overtime
Crosby also missed an extra point in the first half.
The Packers, despite the kicking drama, are now 4-1 to start the season, with four straight wins since the Week 1 disaster in Jacksonville.
Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers completed 27 passes, including 11 to Davante Adams, who finished with a career-high 206 receiving yards and a touchdown. Adams had a 59-yard catch, and Aaron Jones had a 57-yard run.
The Packers finished with 466 total yards but were 2-for-5 scoring touchdowns in the red zone. The Bengals had two turnovers, both on interceptions thrown by Joe Burrow.
Matt LaFleur’s team will now head back to Green Bay and prep for a trip to Chicago to play the Bears in Week 6.
