Rutgers still has a solid pathway to a bowl game, despite three straight losses to open Big Ten play.
On Sunday, the updated ESPN FPI has Rutgers at 5.8 wins for the season. But they are favored in three of their remaining six games, which would put the Scarlet Knights squarely in a position for a bowl game.
Rutgers is 54.1 percent favored by ESPN FPI for this Saturday’s game at Northwestern (2-3) which is then followed by a much-needed bye week. Then for the October 30 game at Illinois (2-5), Rutgers is favored by ESPN FPI at 65.1 percent.
And the season finale has Rutgers best chance of a win at 66.4 percent against Maryland (4-2).
Win three games and Rutgers would be bowl eligible, putting them in the postseason for the first time since 2014, when they beat North Carolina in the Quick Lane Bowl.
Rutgers next home game, against Wisconsin (2-3), has Rutgers with a 40.6 percent chance of winning, the highest percentage of the three games that the Scarlet Knights are not favored in.
