Hendon Hooker continuing to grow, develop and have command of Vols’ offense

Hendon Hooker is continuing to grow and develop, and have command of the Vols’ offense.

Tennessee (4-2, 2-1 SEC) defeated South Carolina, 45-20, Saturday at Neyland Stadium.

Redshirt senior quarterback Hendon Hooker completed 17-of-23 passes for 225 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 66 yards and one touchdown on 20 attempts.

Following the Vols’ win against South Carolina, first-year Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel discussed Hooker playing in his offense.

“Hendon’s continuing to grow and develop offensively,” Heupel said. “To have complete command of what we’re doing. That’s in the run game, that’s in the pass game, it’s understanding protections.

“You can see that we trust the ball in his hands in certain situations too, and continues to grow and take great care of the football. He has great command and the players have responded to him in a really positive way.”

During the 2021 season, Hooker has completed 78-of-112 passes for 1,063 yards, 13 touchdowns and one interception. He has rushed for 282 yards and three touchdowns on 66 attempts.
