The biggest game of the year for Penn State is here, and the picks are officially in from the crew at College GameDay. ESPN’s traveling roadshow may not have made the visit to Iowa City for Penn State’s big road game at Iowa in a battle of top-four unbeaten teams in Big Ten play, but it was clearly a game high on the radar for the weekly picks segment.
So who are they picking this week?
Leading off the picks was Desmond Howard, who has been leaning Penn State multiple times this season. Howard continued that trend saying the Penn State defense will rise to the occasion and have the better performance than Iowa’s much-hyped defense.
Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban was the celebrity guest picker this week, with the pregame show airing from the Texas-Oklahoma matchup at the nearby Texas State Fair. Cuban agreed with Howard and also decided to pick Penn State, suggesting Iowa’s offense doesn’t have enough to score the points it would need for a win.
Lee Corso wasn’t having any of that, however. Corso pulled the “No so fast” on Cuban and said Iowa will emerge victoriously. Kirk Herbstreit then informed Corso he is the lone wolf on this week’s pick. Herbstreit praised Kirk Ferentz and everything Iowa has been doing, but noted he was picking Penn State and suggested Sean Clifford will be a big difference-maker in the game.
Is this an accurate reading on the mega showdown in the Big Ten later on Saturday afternoon? Or is this a screenshot that will come back to haunt three-fourths of the GameDay pickers?
