The 49ers are set to bring in a kicker to replace Robbie Gould who’ll be sidelined for three-to-five weeks with a groin injury. NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero on Tuesday reported Joey Slye will ink a deal to kick for San Francisco while Gould recovers.
Gould sustained his injury during pregame warmups before the 49ers played the Seattle Seahawks. Punter Mitch Wishnowsky held kicking duties Sunday and missed a 41-yard try and an extra point.
Slye, 25, made his NFL debut in 2019 with the Panthers as an undrafted free agent from Virginia Tech. In 32 games with Carolina across two seasons he hit 54 of his 68 field goal attempts and 64 of his 71 extra point tries. His career long is 56 yards.
This year he spent three games with the Texans where he connected on four-of-five tries and seven-of-eight extra points.
There’s no word on whether Gould will go on Injured Reserve which would require him to miss a minimum of three weeks.
