With Klay Thompson still working through the later stages of his rehab from an Achilles injury, the Golden State Warriors have an opening at the shooting guard position.
During training camp, different players like Jordan Poole, Otto Porter Jr. and Damion Lee were likely in a battle to land the starting shooting guard position in Steve Kerr’s rotation.
In the Warriors preseason opener against the Portland Trail Blazers, Poole will get the nod at shooting guard, per Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

Entering his third season with the Warriors, Poole is coming off a fiery end to his 2020-21 campaign. After a stint in the G League, the 2019 first-round pick averaged 14.7 points on 43.3% shooting from the field and 35.4% shooting from long distance in 23.5 minutes.

With Poole appearing in the starting lineup, the Warriors will need to find a burst of scoring off the bench. Porter Jr., Lee, Moses Moody, Jonathan Kuminga and Nemanja Bjelica are players the Warriors could lean on to charge Steve Kerr’s second unit.
Poole and the Warriors will suit up for a preseason contest against Damian Lillard and the Portland Trailblazers at The Moda Center on Monday night at 7 p.m PT.
