It says a lot that Bears fans don’t have to worry when Cairo Santos steps up to attempt a field goal. We’ve come a long way since the kicker carousel in 2019, where Chicago has now found their guy in Santos.
Last season, Santos set a franchise record for consecutive field goals overall and in a single season with 27, which broke Robbie Gould’s previous record of 26 straight. Santos also set a single-season percentage record, connecting on 93.8 percent of his kicks (30 of 32).
His impressive performance earned him a three-year contract extension, and he’s picked up right where he left off last season. Santos has gone 5 of 5 on field goals this season.
With his 33-yard field goal against the Lions on Sunday, Santos’ streak was extended to 32 straight. And thanks to misses by the Patriots’ Nick Folk and the Giants’ Graham Gano, Santos now holds the NFL’s longest active streak of made field goals with 32.

Santos’ success with Chicago was a happy accident, as he was signed last year as an emergency option should Eddy Pineiro not be good to go. That ended up being the case, and Santos had the job locked down by Week 3.
Santos hasn’t missed a field goal since Week 3 of the 2020 season.
