Dak Prescott has three games under his belt now after his horrific ankle injury in 2020. The Dallas Cowboys’ franchise QB shown no signs of rust and the argument can be made he’s even better than he was before the injury.
Prescott had more yards at this point in each of the last two seasons but he’s done something in 2021 that’s put him in an exclusive group. On Monday night, Prescott joined Tom Brady (2007) and Drew Brees (2018) as the only quarterbacks in NFL history to complete 77% of their passes for over 800 yards in the first three games of the season.
The former Offensive Rookie of the Year has done an amazing job of spreading the football around this season. He’s completed passes to nine different receivers with seven of them bringing in at least seven receptions. Wide receivers Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb are on pace for over 1,000 yards each and tight end Dalton Schultz is on course for over 800.
Although he hasn’t reached 400 yards since Week 1 Prescott has been incredibly efficient in his last two games. He’s completed 44 of his 53 passes (83%) for 475 yards and three touchdowns to just one interception. The Cowboys have won both games.
Injuries are an unfortunate part of football, which Prescott experienced firsthand last season. He didn’t let it stop him though as he feels he’s better now than he’s ever been.
“I said it earlier in the year, and I’ll say it again: I think just getting hurt last year and having to sit back and watch football, a different perspective and just different ways people play this game,” Prescott said. “Going back, the experience obviously has helped, but just studying and preparing myself and then all the work that I’ve put in just to get back healthy, not only the leg but the shoulder … I feel like I’m playing the best I’ve ever played.”
It remains to be seen if this will be Prescott’s best season in the NFL. However, it can’t be denied he’s off to an unbelievable start so far.
